Division 1 - Aberporth 1 v 1 Maesglas

It was a point, that’s what the talking point will be for the Blues after scrapping to a draw in this game which never rose to great heights although the ball did, the pitch in recent years has deteriorated and did not suit the football on the deck and even with the weed killing line markings not helping the flow of the ball this was another hindrance for the away side. Excuses yes, but all true.

It was a game where the home team needed the points to keep their first division status and this point will help, as for the Blues, this puts a dent in to their top five finish. Maesglas were drawn into a game which was more of a scrap than a football game; every ball was fought for with conviction from the Aberporth side, which without any “stars” as such in their team it was whole of the side who worked hard for the point. It was the Airmen who took the lead twenty minutes into the game after some poor defending, a ball aimlessly knocked long down the wing was not dealt with any urgency by the Blues defence and the Aberporth winger just knocked the ball across goal and whether it was luck or not it found a team mate who had time to have a picnic! But the player finished well and put the home side a goal up.

Maesglas kicked into life and after 3 take able chances were missed it looked like a case of one of those days and as such it was, the half time came and went and although the Blues were dominant for long periods it was the Airmen who handled everything that was thrown at them, and the home   side had some close chances themselves put poor finishing like the Blues letting them down. Some Maesglas players were getting frustrated and showing a lack of composure at the wrong times and this was so evident in the Blues build up play, it was more kick and rush and this fell into the hands of Aberporth who continued to hunt the away side in packs. The Blues pinched a deserved equaliser after fifteen minutes of the second half had been played this came after some good work from Aled Rees his cross was met by LLifon Howell who shinned the ball passed the excellent Abler keeper Ryan Banks. Both side had chances to pinch the win, and in all fairness a draw was probably a fair result, but it will be Maesglas who will want to forget this game and blame it on a bad day at the office!!

Maesglas entertain Lampeter next Saturday where the Lampeter side will be fuming after losing to league leaders Cardigan who know must be  favourites  and who are now in the driving seat, so a win is vital for them, so it should be a cracker.
